Dog Training Fundamentals

Eight 45-Minute Sessions. $99/session

Once/week for 8 weeks; or twice/week for 4 weeks. 

Dog Training Fundamentals teaches you and your dog the Ten Fundamental Skills that every dog (and every owner) should know. In addition to these essential skills, you will learn everything you need to know to communicate better with your dog, to motivate your dog and to have a better degree of control.

 

Your dog will learn:

  • Reliable Response to Name

  • On-Leash Control

  • Sit

  • Down

  • Come

  • Stay

  • Leave-It

  • Loose-Leash Walking

  • Wait at Doors and the Food Bowl

  • Go to a Place

 

In this course, our goal is to help you teach your dog to respond correctly the first time, every time you ask. Dog Training Fundamentals will also help you correct or prevent common problem behaviors and bad habits. Finally, in this course you will learn the Three 'Cs' of Good Leadership, which will help you earn your dog's trust and cooperation and build a better bond with your dog.

 

Prerequisite: Introductory Session

 

Introductory Session

One 45-Minute Session. $75.

Required for all clients prior to the start of training or Day School sessions. 

It is essential for all clients to go through our One-hour Introductory Session. In this session, you will be able to meet with your trainer and discuss your training goals, and your trainer will be able to introduce you to our training method; to evaluate your dog; and to answer any questions you may have.

All new clients start with our Introductory Session. Following this, dogs over six months of age* move on to Dog Training Fundamentals, followed by Advanced Training. You may also be interested in our  CGC/Community Canine classes; or specialized training, such as therapy or assistance dog training.

Training Programs

Advanced Training

Four, 45-Minute Sessions. $99/session

Once/week for 8 weeks; or twice/week for 4 weeks. 

In Dog Training Fundamentals, dogs are taught to respond to cues the first time, every time they are asked. In Advanced Training, our focus is on getting dogs to respond to cues the first time, every time, in every situation

Advanced Training will help refine the skills learned in Fundamentals and will teach additional skills including:

 

  • Heel

  • Off-leash recall

  • Automatic stop/sit

  • Long stays

 

This class will also address any additional training challenges you may be having with your dog and will give you the opportunity to discuss specialty training with your instructor.

 

Prerequisite: Dog Training Fundamentals 

All our training courses are helpful for developing better responsiveness to training and for correcting or preventing bad habits, like jumping up and leash pulling. 

 

If your dog is experiencing any signs of the following, you may need behavior consulting in addition to training.

 

If your dog is showing signs of:

  • General Anxiety

  • Separation Anxiety

  • Dog Aggression

  • Aggression with People

  • Fearful Behavior

  • Noise/Thunderstorm Phobias

 

You will likely need to schedule a comprehensive behavior assessment to find out if behavior consulting is appropriate for your dog.

Vaccination Requirements

All private training clients are required to furnish a copy of your dog's vaccination records prior to your first training session. Dogs 16 weeks and older are required to have up-to-date:

 

  • Rabies

  • DHPP
